Sing Free: A Joyful Day of Music, Movement & Connection

This past Sunday, the Mukti Music Choir Retreat welcomed a vibrant group of girls (grades 5–9) into the peaceful hills of Urban Ashram for a day of joyful singing, creative exploration, and soulful connection.

Under Ramya’s skillful guidance, the morning opened with grounding breathwork and vocal warm-ups, tuning into body and breath before diving into group and solo singing. Through musical games, harmony building, and playful improvisation, the girls learned to support one another’s voices while exploring their own.

Our musical journey flowed from Summertime and classic jazz blues, to Suddha Dhanyasi and Abheri —offering a unique genre-blending celebration where east met west, tradition met creativity, and voices rose in both precision and play.

The afternoon brought movement, and emotional expression through sound and stillness. The girls opened up, laughed freely, and even taught us some Gen Alpha slang.

This blog would be incomplete without mentioning our unforgettable retreat member Laya, Ramya’s sweet dog, who brought a calm and joyful presence to the circle—soaking in the music, basking in sun patches, and accepting cuddles with grace.

We ended with a heartwarming concert —a culmination of everything the girls had discovered and co-created throughout the day.

Thank you to each family for entrusting us with your daughters’ voices and energy. And to the girls—we see your courage, creativity, and harmony. Let’s keep singing.
